Differential equations – Partial differential equations

Definition: A partial differential equation is an equation involving an unknown function of several variables and its partial derivatives.

We consider three main types:

  1. the heat equation or diffusion equation,

  2. the wave equation,

  3. the Laplace equation or potential equation.

In all cases we only use one single method: the method of separation of variables.
